SOPHIA
Product Description:
OPENING – HISTORY & INSPIRATION
“The Sophia Chair is inspired by Queen Sophie of Mecklenburg, who, at only 14 years of age, married King Frederick II in 1572. Later in life, she became a strong political figure and supported her son, King Christian IV, in the realization of one of Copenhagen’s most iconic buildings: the Stock Exchange.
This chair is a contemporary tribute to her legacy – a piece that connects history, architecture, and modern functionality.”
ARCHITECTURE & FORM LANGUAGE
“The form of the Sophia Chair is drawn directly from the architecture of the Exchange Hall. The rounded ceiling beams, the vertical stripes of the columns, and the rhythm of the space are reinterpreted in its curves and lines.
It is designed not to dominate the room, but to dissolve into it – almost like a ghostly presence of Sophie herself, floating through history in her famous red and yellow bridal gown.”
CLOSING – STORY & PURPOSE
“The Sophia Chair is therefore more than a piece of furniture. It is a storyteller – a continuation of the Stock Exchange’s architecture and history, a tribute to the queen who made it possible, and a modern chair that combines poetry, practicality, and safety.
It is designed to serve the future of the Exchange Hall, while carrying with it the spirit of its past.”

Materials & Craftsmanship
“The choice of materials reflects both durability and dignity:
a steel frame that provides strength and lightness,
a molded oak shell that mirrors the timeless character of the building,
and seat cushions upholstered in 100% wool, offering comfort, tactility, and warmth.
Each material has been selected to balance practicality with poetry, robustness with refinement.”
Dögg design, leather work and bed with canopy.

Function & Safety
“But the Sophia Chair is more than a story. It is highly functional. The chair is lightweight, easy to stack in large numbers, and transportable on trolleys. A discreet linking system allows the chairs to be connected in rows, while a small curved plate doubles as a resting place for handbags or mobile phones.
Safety is also integrated into the design: the closed underframe ensures that, in case of emergency, people will not be injured if the chairs fall backwards.”
