Yggdrasil
Product Description:
The inspiration comes from the 25-meter-high indoor forest, where trees rise through the entire building and from the columns of the terminal, both wide and slender, forming a rhythm of modern tree trunks. Above them floats the soft, cloud-shaped ceiling, gently connecting the different functions of the space and creating a bright, open, and welcoming atmosphere, in the new Copenhagen Airport.
This chair is a translation of that architecture into furniture scale a small piece of architecture you can sit inside. It is circular in form, with a diameter of 700 mm, and includes an integrated side cushion, allowing the body to naturally settle into a relaxed position. Inside the chair, soft upholstered arches mirror the flowing form of the ceiling’s cloud creating a calm, enveloping space within the movement of the airport. Surrounding the chair are nine wooden dowels, referencing both the trees of the forest and the terminal’s columns. They vary in width and rhythm, just like the architecture itself.
At the same time, they carry symbolic meaning: the nine worlds of Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life. Seven of the dowels stand in an irregular pattern, symbolizing the seven seas, seven continents, seven colors of the rainbow, and seven days of the week representing movement, connection, and the rhythm of life.
The chair is crafted in form-pressed oak, with an integrated table in solid oak, and structural details in stainless steel for strength and precision.
